AED stands for Automated External Defibrillator. It is a portable, easy to use machine that can assess the rhythm of a patient’s heart, and if it has stopped beating, advises the person using the AED on the patient to press a button, that administers a shock that should restore the person’s heart beat.
AEDs are designed to be used by any motivated bystander, regardless of prior knowledge or training. That’s what makes them so essential to have around. They can save countless lives because they can be used by anybody, effectively. Studies show that the difference in survival rates in victims of Sudden Cardiac Arrest can be as high as 70% when an AED is used in combination with CPR compared to the events of SCA without the use of an AED.
This is why we are working to donate as many Zoll AEDs as possible with out First Aid AED Training courses.
